Born in Gaziantep, Göksu Üçtaş started gymnastics at the age of five. She settled in the Camp Training Center in Bolu at the age of six. For years she trained twice a day, six days a week. She lived for sixteen years in a room without a toilet. She was injured from the knee with an elbow dislocated. She later had cervical disk hernia that she would carry throughout her life. She continued to work. In 2012, she became the first artistic gymnast to represent Turkey in the Olympic Games.
